At Costello we believe that wearing a uniform is a badge of pride, creates an identity for a school and is an important part of being a school student. Uniform gives students a sense of belonging to a particular school and create an identity for the school in the community.
A school uniform teaches students to dress smartly and take pride in their appearance and helps students to prepare for when they leave school and may have to dress smartly or wear a uniform. There is a belief a school uniform can improve learning by reducing distraction, sharpening focus on schoolwork and making the classroom a more serious environment, allowing students to perform better academically.
It is therefore important to ensure that the uniform we have is worn by everyone correctly. Our guidelines for student appearance are set out in our Uniform Policy (see below) and we would appreciate your support in ensuring that these are adhered to. Uniform is an integral part of our culture and features in our Home School Agreement. We accept that on the odd occasion a student may need to wear an alternative item of clothing perhaps for a medical reason and all we ask is that this is noted in the diary to be countersigned by the tutor.
Our school uniform code has taken account of and delivers the DfE statutory guidance: Cost of School Uniforms.
