Duke of Edinburgh

We are delighted to offer the first collaborative DofE training website, aimed at helping all our students complete their DofE Award. The site focuses on student learning, walking them through each aspect of Expedition training; first aid, route planning, expedition kit and packing, etc. It provides individual feedback on completed sections and provides a certificate of recognition at the end of each section.

What is the Duke of Edinburgh award?

The DofE award is the world’s leading youth achievement award – pushing personal boundaries, gaining new skills and enhancing young people’s CVs and university applications. There are three levels of the award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. In the 2017/2018 school year, the Bronze Award was launched for the pupils in year 10. Now, 13 out of the 35 who completed the away, now in Yr 11, have moved onto their Silver Award. We also have 97 pupils across Yr 9 and Yr 10 carrying out their Bronze Award.

Our aim and model

2018/2019 – The Y9s and Y10s, complete their Bronze award. Y11 complete their silver.

2019/2020 – The Bronze award will be launched to the Y9s. Y10 and Y11 participants complete their Silver Award.

The Bronze Award will always be launched for pupils in Year 9, as this gives them the option of completing their Silver award in either Year 10 or Year 11.

Keeping Up To Date

To keep up to date with all the training events and expedition dates, follow the school (@BohuntWorthing) and the school’s DofE (@BSW_DofE) Twitter pages. Once pupils have registered to the award scheme, all important dates for the calendar are also sent out to parents and carers email addresses.

DofE Programme Planning

Skills Programme

Is there something you’ve always wanted to try or do you want to get better at your favourite hobby? Do it for your Skills section and get the credit for it! Play the guitar or learn to paint, go karting or make honey – the sky is the limit when it comes to skills

Volunteering Programme

Principles
  • People have a responsibility to each other. By volunteering, communities are improved and strengthened.
  • Young people are passionate about many things and should be encouraged to make a positive contribution to something they care about.
  • The commitment to volunteering should be recognised: therefore young people are rewarded for this activity with the completion of a section of their DofE programme.
Benefits

Through volunteering, participants:

  • Learn about their community and feel a sense of belonging and purpose.
  • Learn to take responsibility for their communities and their own actions by committing and persevering with an activity.
  • Build new relationships with members of their community, decreasing fears and prejudice and increasing community cohesion.
  • Further understand their own strengths and weaknesses by evaluating their own progress and building confidence and self-esteem.
  • Get a chance to develop teamwork and leadership skills, increasing their employability and work experience.
  • Have the opportunity to trust others and in turn be trusted.
  • Enjoy new adventures.
